my latest problem is that when you start the car all is well but after a couple of minutes it will cut out and the injector light will come on. it will easily restart but rev it up a bit and it hunts and feels like it will cut out. i put on a new map sensor but it didnt help also disconnected the battery overnight to reboot the ecu but no change there either. i will put on a new fuel filter and see how that goes.... any suggestions are welcome at the minute as i hate just throwing parts at it.
thanks

today after 3 months i fixed my problems with the car. it turned out to be the TPS Throttle Position Sensor was faulty. So I swapped it for one from my donor car and it was like magic totally transformed the car. I was scared to touch this sensor as Haynes manual and others say it has to be set up using fiat diagnostics but for me it was simply swap it and all was well.
For anyone looking to do this job the sensor is located on the front left of the throttle body and has 2 T20 Torx screws and an electrical connector with 3 wires on it also on that side is the IAC Idle Air Control sensor which i previously removed for cleaning and it was dirty but still working. do not over tighten the TPS or you will damage it. I cant understand what people were on about setting it up as it only has 2 screw holes which have no adjustment on them. There is a spring on the throttle body but I didnt push my luck by interfering with that as I am only an amateur home mechanic and not an expert.
This post is for anyone who is searching in desperation for help like I was on this car. The car is OBD1 and I bought all the gear to plug into the ecu but could not get anywhere with the ecu all I got was "link error" in other words computer says no haha.

Well here we go again with the Cinquecento... the latest thing is the idle speed is quite high and i don't know why. It drives well and starts on the button but when at traffic lights its idling I would say at about 1500 rpm without any hunting. I tried squeezing the pipes on the throttle body and when you squeeze the small pipe from the crank case breather to the throttle body the revs drop to normal. this pipe looks fine condition wise and i trimmed a bit off it just in case it was leaking. Disconnecting the IAC valve and map sensor individually drives it nuts so i know they are working. Also the injector light is coming on occasionally under hard acceleration.
Guess I will have to buy a new TPS and see how that goes...

Is there anybody still on this site or am I babbling to myself??????
Also for my sins I bought a 1998 Cinquecento sporting in imola blue as my next project. They arnt as much faster than the base model as i thought it would be. I needs a wheel bearing a water pump and timing belt kit and drivers side elecrtic window is not moving more than a few millimeters so plenty to keep me busy then...

new tps sensor fitted a week ago and high tickover is still present its not cutting out now, also the engine is now changing tickover speed at random. when you boot it the injection light comes on for a bit and goes out when you lift off. just ordered a new IAC idle air control sensor in the hope of fixing this issue... the car pulls strongly so i think its a minor fault here. i serviced it 2 weeks ago and have done 1000 miles in 5 weeks in it. new tyres fitted yesterday and it is much quieter on the road.
any body any ideas on this issue send them in i will try anything i havent already thought of with the exception of matches and petrol...

finally fixed it tonight once and for all. turns out i put the vacuum hose from the rocker cover onto the position for the charcoal cannister and vise versa. this led to a very high tickover and after changing every part i could think of i finally saw a picture of a throttle body on the internet and noticed the pipes were the reverse of mine... kicking myself over this but atleast its sorted now. ive been tinkering with cars for nearly 30 years and cant believe i did that.

and so the saga continues with the Cinquecento 899. after a good spell it is playing up again this time hunting and cutting out when cold and the injector light comes on particularly when you rev it or put the boot down. it drives reasonably ok when warm except for the injector light coming on at random changed the tps again but no different running. pulled off the map sensor and it improved for a while then the fan came on so i knew it was hot and the tickover improved. plugged map back in and it ran fine except for inj light. strange situation and could be many things as sometimes it runs like clockwork.....

All is good again put in a spare old map sensor and we are running very well. The one I took out was brand new from ebay and it's Special mummy-daddy hugged after a few months. I'm delighted with it now. Let's see how long this lasts. I have to book it in for its nct test so fingers crossed for me.
