Hello everyone,

My front offside brake on my Seicento is constantly wearing down much faster than the nearside. Any ideas why?

Sick of changing both sides when only one side is worn through!

Lisa :)

Usually means a sticking brake. Does it pull to one side at all when you brake hard?

Thanks for the quick reply Pete.

If it is pulling to one side then it's not noticeable. However I don't feel confident braking in the wet.

My garage informed me that one side was much more worn than the other when I had my car MOT'd and serviced but they couldn't find out the reason for the uneven wear so I thought I'd consult the expert!

What would cause a brake to stick and be something a garage wouldn't consider? If I can put right the root cause then I won't have to replace as often hopefully.

Lisa :)

It's probably a sticking caliper on the offside.

yep sounds like a sticky caliper slider.

To try to free it:

Take out split-pin type thing from the rod on the bottom of the caliper, and knock out the pin (with a punch is best)

Swing the part of the caliper with the piston upwards till it clears the pads.

This piece should now slide freely left/right (with respect to the car) on the slider/pivot.

If it doesn't then it might just need regreasing, or might need dismantling a bit more and the corrosion sanded off before re-greasing.
