Hi Guys.
Im only a newbie so dont bite my head off lol im not dissing the forum or putting it down but a couple of pointers where SEO is involved.

Quote:
Title:
Title contains no errors.
This tag contains 77 characters.
Title relevancy to page content is good.
The Title relevancy to page content is 67%.

Description:
Description meta tag contains no errors.
This tag contains 81 characters.
Description meta tag relevancy to page content is good.
The Description meta tag relevancy to page content is 69%.

Keywords:
Keywords meta tag contains too many keywords.
This tag contains 24 keywords.
This is too many for what we would consider a 'robot friendly' keywords tag. The maximum number of keywords we recommend for this tag is 20.
Keywords meta tag relevancy to page content is poor.
The keywords meta tag relevancy to page content is 38%.

Robots:
The Robots meta tag contains no errors.
This tag contains 13 characters.

The keywords need looking into to bring the pagerank above (2) keywords need to be relevant to the content on the homepage.
so adding more text or editing the text on the homepage to include the words in your keywords meta tag will improve relevancy alot!
Also you have 4 too mant keywords so removing 4 will make it 'robot friendly'

title and description are ok but not great! again adding more relevant words to the homepage will improve this alot!

Then i notice your using frames (eeek) for you forum.
This works but in terms of SEO its a "no no!" it stops your title from changing on your forum page meaning google will index the same title which has no relevancy to the forum post! although it looks like its more settled into the site its not a great move.

Other ideas are to use a .htaccess this changes URL's int he website/forum to seo friendly ones!
so
Code:
http://www.clubcento.co.uk/index.php?option=com_rsgallery2&Itemid=34
can be
Code:
http://www.clubcento.co.uk/gallery.html
etc...
this will make your pagerank fly up! and they can also be dynamice so forum posts will auto make a URL like
Code:
http://www.clubcento.co.uk/my+forum+post+is+here.html
google really hates weird URL's with characters in them that make no sense!

Hope this helps u guys, if you need any help implementing any changes let me know!
Adam :)

Hi Adam

Thanks for your suggestions, however I'm not sure it is the best advice available. For example, your keyword analysis has included the whole page, but our homepage has frequently updated articles so terms such as 'wench' is not applicable ;)

I'd be interested in knowing where you got the information about having over 20 keywords is poor for SEO purposes. Also, neither keywords or .htaccess files have any relevance to the Google Page Rank to the site, this is all down to link analysis from other sites. Please feel free to take a look at Wikipedias entry here.

I agree with you that frames are not the ideal solution for incorporating the forum into the main site, however until a stable plugin has been developed to link in Joomla with phpBB this is the only option without losing posts that we have accumulated over the year(s). In the meantime, please feel free to use http://forum.clubcento.co.uk which uses dynamic page titles and is indexed in Google.

Thanks anyway

Shaun

From my own experience he is right on the friendly urls, google likes it in the same way it dislikes (and largely ignores) meta tags. Google knows when a page may be dynamic because of its URL including arguments, and weighs it down because it assumes its content will change over time.

I agree too, but until we get a whole load of content on the site it's going to make little difference to our current ranking.

Hi Guys.
This wasnt a dig at the site or anything if it was taken the wrong way, im not here to insult people.
Ive always found using .htaccess has helped pagerank as they can be dynamic and include words rather than topicid=32 etc...

You homepage will change quite often but including a static welcome text incorperating relevant keywords will help out alot!

Ive not used it before but i thought there was a phpbb portal addon for joomla/mambo? see http://www.korider.com/forum/index.php
Ive used korider.com for a while and there homepage is very easy to update as its built into the forum and it just homepage posts.
it looks abit sh*t but no hard to change it to look exactly as it does now, it also has old news archived :)

I was only posting this to try and experiment with getting the pagerank above 2 as i think it should be atleast 4+ to get a half decent rank.

http://www.seocentro.com/tools/search-e ... lyzer.html it worked well helping me with sites in the past and gives a pretty good analysis.

Also have you thought about xml sitemap for google? it likes them too!
Ad.

No one is getting offended, I think we could benefit from some of what Adam says. Have you got experience on these things? I only know about the subject tangentially, as I used to outsource SEO and then implement the suggestions.

I'd quite like to keep this open if thats ok so people can chip in with ideas?

Don't worry Adam, nothing was taken in the wrong way. I can 100% assure you though that SEF URLs and .htaccess files have no relation to the Google Page Rank. If you want to get us above PR2 did you're more than welcome to link to us from your sites ;)

There are a couple of portals in development to merge Joomla/Mambo with phpBB but as yet none are at the stable release point (well, they weren't when I last checked!).

Korider uses phpbb v.2 and phpnuke. I used to use phpbb nuke on a popular unsigned musicians website until I found out that it had major security holes in it. By this time it was too late to do anything about it as the site had grown so much, then it was hacked into and wiped. Since then I refuse point blank to use anything designed by Fransisco.

The site does have an XML map and has been submitted to Google Webmaster tools.

Cheers

Shaun

So do I, I find it interesting and I'm far from an expert. At the end the discussion can only be beneficial.

"dont skit geeks, chances are you'll probably end up working for one"

We can only really play with the ideas of seo and see where it leads us, its not the easiest area to work with as pageranks can take months or years to budge up but worth a play.
I managed to get pageranks up on a site thats been up for about 4 weeks, its now miles ahead of its closes rivels who ranked at 1 and 2 and i rank at about 4-5 :)
id just like to see the site rank abit higher so peeps find it :)
